2026 Oklahoma Wrecker License Renewal: Get Ready Before You Start

It's renewal time again!

The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety Wrecker Services Division has begun notifying licensed wrecker services that the 2026 renewal period opens October 1.

RENEWAL PERIOD: OCTOBER 1 – DECEMBER 1, 2026

DPS will send licensed wrecker services an email containing a hyperlink to their prefilled Renewal Application eForm.

Before you click that link, get prepared.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: THERE IS NO SAVE & COME BACK LATER OPTION

The State's renewal application needs to be completed start to finish.

Before beginning your application, OWOA recommends creating a folder on your computer labeled:

2026 Wrecker Renewal

Gather your documents, save them to that folder, and make sure everything is ready to upload before you begin.

A little preparation now can save a lot of frustration later!

2026 WRECKER RENEWAL CHECKLIST

☐ Oklahoma Secretary of State Certificate
☐ Lease Agreement for any leased property, if applicable

☐ Proof of Insurance
☐ Complete List of All Employees

WRECKER VEHICLE INFORMATION

Have information available for every wrecker vehicle:

☐ VIN  ☐ Make
☐ Year ☐ License Plate Number

Make sure every wrecker you intend to license is included on the renewal application.

ALL PERSONNEL

Every person required to be listed on the application needs a National Criminal History Records Check with Sex Offender Check.

This includes applicable owners, office employees, garage/shop employees, full-time and part-time employees, temporary and seasonal employees, interns, and volunteers.

The National Criminal History Records Check must be completed within 60 days of submission of the renewal application.

WRECKER OPERATORS / DRIVERS

For each wrecker vehicle operator, have:

☐ Certificate showing completion of the required 4 Hours of DPS-Approved Continuing Education
☐ Proof of Driver's License
☐ Negative Drug Screening completed during the same calendar year as the renewal application

New operators should also make sure they have satisfied applicable 16-Hour Basic Wrecker Operator Training requirements.

ORGANIZE BEFORE YOU START

We recommend creating a separate folder for each employee or driver and clearly naming your files.

For example:

Smith_John_CHRC.pdf
Smith_John_DriversLicense.pdf
Smith_John_DrugScreen.pdf
Smith_John_4HR_CE.pdf

When you open the State renewal application, you want everything sitting there ready to upload.

Don't make renewal day the day you start hunting for paperwork!

STILL NEED TRAINING?

OWOA has upcoming DPS-approved 4-Hour Continuing Education opportunities with both in-person and virtual options, as well as 16-Hour Basic Wrecker Operator Training classes.

If you or one of your operators still needs training, don't wait until the renewal deadline.
